Killing Time Until Portfolio

As I anxiously await the results for the portfolio review, I decided to play around with some Photoshop painting, using a new technique I learned in class. It's been fun, and here's a shot of the work in progress. It was meant to be a doodle, but rendering got the better of me. I'll see how far I get tonight, and then put it on the shelf... just noticed, she looks a little like a stern Julie Andrews. Hmmmmm.

Portfolio Review 2013

Hey guys, it's been a while, but don't worry, I got a lot of stuff to post! Here is my portfolio for the SJSU Animation/ Illustration program this semester. I feel like I got a good shot, but let me know your thoughts.

Self Portrait Study

This was more fun than I thought it would be. I think the shadow shapes are a bit off, but I'm just glad I'm actually painting. Yay productivity.

Pathfinder OC: Ravana

After a very eventful, stressful semester, I have time to work on my own stuff again. Here's Ravana, my Ifrit Rogue/Sorcerer for Pathfinder RPG. It was my first time making a character for such a game, and I'm still haven't gotten the whole hang of it yet, but man it was fun. Our group almost died like five times. Oh memories...

Also her hair is supposed to be fire... I was too lazy to look up reference, don't smite me!

Toned Portrait

So I got off my lazy ass and did a legitimate 20-minute long portrait from a photo today. Ava Gardner is freaking gorgeous (those cheekbones), so I hope I did her justice. I had a lot of fun drawing this.

Just Something

So I was bored and did this. That is literally it. It's there and I don't have much of an opinion on this piece. It's not bad, not great, more of an elaborate doodle if anything. I just like drawing faces and playing with textures I randomly find. So yeah.

Sailor Mars! Work in Progress

Over the winter break I began a large project: to paint realistic Sailor Scout portraits. The anime Sailor Moon has been my passion since I was a kid, and continues to inspire me to this day. It was thanks to obsessively drawing Sailor Moon as a child that I grew to love art.

I've made progress on all of the portraits, but Sailor Mars is the closest to completion. I'm really happy with the bounce light on her nose. I still need to research fabric textures to paint it correctly and perhaps fix some of the shading on her face.

Flutter By Butterfly

Ah, animating, my love and hate. Unfortunately, I discovered in ANI 28 that I'm not an animator. I love animation and what it can do... but someone else can animate and I'll just tell them what to put down. Yet, I am still proud with my final, came out better than I anticipated. I lucked out with that butterfly.

ANI 28 Illustrations

So this is from last semester, ANI 28, my first animation class. At the beginning of the semester we focused on illustrations communicating a message and story before tackling an animated piece. I feel like I got a few decent works from that class, though not sure if anything portfolio worthy. Those were good times back then. Weird to think that was only a semester ago, feels a lot longer than that.

Best of the First Year of College

So to start, here's my best stuff from my first year at SJSU. The two self portraits are from first semester and the two paintings are from second semester.

Bounce light!

I wish I had a better quality photo for this. Very proud with this piece.
I might get it out again and work on it over summer.

The first thing I ever painted that I liked. Something magical happened then.

Had so much fun with the line quality, but would like to
play with the background more.

A Start! Success!

What's up? It's Madeline ;)

I've finally made an art blog for all of you to laugh, cry, and tear your hearts out for how awesome it is. Now, let's find something worth posting on here. It may be crap, but NOT CRAP HOPEFULLY! Great name, right? ... I might change it later.
